چکیده
Lactate in the Cerebrospinal Fluid and Pressure-Flow Relationships in Canine Cerebral Circulation • In 11 dogs, lactate and pH in the cerebrospinal fluid and in the arterial and the venous blood were measured during stepwise reductions of the arterial blood pressure by controlled bleeding. Increase in lactate and decrease in pH of the cerebrospinal fluid occurred with lowering of the mean arterial blood pressure even within the pressure ranges of 110 to 50 mm Hg, where autoregulation was fairly observed. Reductions of the blood pressure by 20 to 40 mm Hg led to a significant increase in lactate, and reductions by 60 mm Hg led to a significant decrease in pH of the cerebrospinal fluid. The relation of decrease in pH and increase in lactate was linear, suggesting that lactacidosis occurred. In the arterial and the venous blood, a marked increase in lactate and decrease in pH also were observed. Lactate concentrations of the cerebral venous blood were significantly higher than those of the arterial blood until the arterial blood pressure had been reduced below 70 mm Hg. Therefore, it was suggested that increase in lactate of the cerebrospinal fluid might be attributed solely to increase in lactate of the brain tissue, so far as the blood pressure was not lowered below 70 mm Hg at least. The possibility of participation of the cerebrospinal fluid lactacidosis in autoregulation of the cerebral blood flow was discussed. Additional

Effect of constricting carotid arteries on cerebral blood flow and on cerebrospinal fluid pH, lactate and pyruvate in dogs.
Cerebral perfusion pressure was reduced by graded constricting of both carotid arteries in the anesthetized dogs, of which vertebral arteries were ligated bilaterally. Cerebral blood flow and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen remained unchanged until cerebral perfusion pressure was lowered to about 50 mm.Hg, indicating that cerebral autoregulation was preserved normally in these animals. Despit...

Among the important pathophysiologic alterations in the brain in bacterial meningitis are abnormalities of cerebral circulation and metabolism; however, the precise mechanisms by which these disturbances occur are not completely delineated. It has been recently recognized that cytokines are produced by tissues in the central nervous system in meningitis and play a critical role in the host infl...
متن کاملCerebral effects of extended hyperventilation in unanesthetized goats.
Thirty-six adult, male unanesthetized goats were hyperventilated to a PaCO2 level of 16-18 mm Hg for 6 hours. Arterial and sagittal sinus blood and cerebrospinal fluid were analyzed for pH, blood gases, bicarbonate, lactate, and pyruvate before hyperventilation, during hyperventilation, and after the termination of hyperventilation. Total cerebral blood flow, regional brain blood flows, and cer...

The pathophysiological changes of progressive neonatal hydrocephalus include: increased intracranial volume of cerebrospinal fluid, progressive dilatation of cerebral ventricles, decreased intracranial compliance, raised intracranial pressure, alteration of cerebral circulation and subsequent secondary brain tissue damage (decreased cerebral blood flow, hypoperfusion, ischaemia), alteration of ...
متن کاملRelationship between cerebrospinal fluid pressure changes and cerebral blood flow.
This study of the effects of certain drugs, gas mixtures, and other stimuli on the cerebrospinal fluid pressure corroborates previous conclusions that alterations in cerebral blood flow are reflected by similar changes in the cerebrospinal fluid pressure in the same direction. The hypothesis is advanced that the elevations and depressions in cerebrospinal fluid pressure resulting from these age...
